Canada: House passes bill to federally legalize recreational marijuana

Depends on the day, depends on the governing party. I would say the Conservative party under Stephen Harper's leadership did not have the people's interest at heart.

In fact, I'd say none of the parties truly do. That's mostly the voters fault - lots of people (where I live, this is anecdotal) tend to be politically uneducated. They view provincial issues as federal ones, place blame in the wrong places, or misunderstand economics (lots of trickle down talk here from arm chair economists).

The parties know how to manipulate their voter base very well. At one point the Conservative government was clambering after net neutrality, for example (the in power Liberals only just recently secured net neutrality freedoms).

And we are so severely in debt, federally. Our healthcare system is broken (unimaginably long waits. Like, you'll die before you make it to the top of the waiting list for your life saving surgery, or be prepared for a 10hr wait in the ER) and we have a shortage of doctors/specialists, especially in northern BC. Housing is a tough one too, and there's a lot of corruption in indigenous governments.
