In Canada it's "Remembrance Day" - not "Veterans' Day" this month...

I keep seeing people mention that its a day to remember the sacrifice and to remember soldiers lost. I think though there is a point being missed. Its not just to reflect on names of Canadians killed its about the impact that war has on a country. It's a day that everyone can reflect on how many people never make it back home from a war. That we should caution government to never beat the war drum for the sake of rhetoric and posturing. That we need to remember that we should avoid the problems that lead us as a country into a war at all costs because of how many Canadians will lose their life if we are not cautious. Yes its about observing the moment of silence and remember those we lost but its also just as much about reminding the country to never think war is something that should be taken lightly. Am I nuts, that's what I always thought Nov 11 was about over individuals. Its the lose of all life in war and the impact it has on Canadian society when husbands and fathers don't come back home because things went off the rails for a bit so lets give this day to teach the younger generations not to be so reckless and try to carry the weight of war to a generation that might not understand the impact.
