Canadian barred from U.S. for life because he admitted he smokes pot

Did he get a fine and confiscation or what? How much pot did he have in the bag??

If you run into a police officer on the street and you're busted for smoking a joint & possessing a quarter ounce in your pocket (which is unlikely, many cops wouldn't bother), you won't get arrested. You will probably be forced to hand over the weed (if you don't have a prescription) and perhaps receive a misdemeanor ticket / fine.

Cops don't give a shit about weed. This is especially true in a large, progressive city like Vancouver. Where I live. Only border patrol has sniffer dogs at the airport and they aren't police, they enforce entry in and out of the country. They don't arrest Canadian citizens who are physically in Canada and not crossing a border.

Moreover, a dried herb in a baggy poses no threat to an airplane. It is not on the list of banned substances you are forbidden to carry onboard.

Anyway, I actually believe you haha, but I'm just saying that it's really not something to be overly concerned about on domestic flights.

Your friend probably had it confiscated and issued a $113 fine. Perhaps he was denied boarding also. Sucks, but hardly in the same league as being arrested on charge of possession.
