Look up what qualifies under a temp short skills visa that is relevant to mining and if you fit into any of those then try from that avenue. If you have a trade that's on the list, you may be able to... But it does cost a few grand to go this route, and some trades aren't as easy to have recognized here...ie I'm Canadian as well and going through skills recognition.

If you can get a working holiday visa (allowed til you're 35 from Canada) you could come here and then look for work, whether FIFO or not. If you're already here should have no problem finding FIFO work as some kind of trade assistant or even cleaning or kitchen work. There's a Canadians in Perth group on Facebook, might be a couple folks there who can give you more direct advice.
