Can't use BootP to set IP on a MicroLogix 1100

BOOTP-DHCP Server Utility or Tool doesn't see the MAC Address 29056 | Date Created: 07/13/2004 | Last Updated: 06/04/2019 Access Level: TechConnect Email this page Print Subscribe to Updates Problem When configuring an IP address on a BootP enabled device, the BootP server doesn't see the broadcast packet from that device and the MAC address doesn't show in the Request History log. Unable to see the MAC address of a device in the BOOTP-DHCP Server tool. Unable to see the 1756-ENBT MAC Address in the BOOTP-DHCP Server utility. BootP on VMWare Machine does not find the device. Why I am not able to see MAC ID of Controller in BOOTP DHCP? Solutions One of the possible causes is a Firewall or Antivirus service that blocks broadcast messages. When BootP or DHCP is enabled on a device, it broadcasts using IP address 255.255.255.255 on UDP port 67 or 68. If a firewall or antivirus is blocking this traffic no MAC address will be seen on the Request History log of the BOOTP-DHCP Server utility. Disable any firewall and antivirus on the computer and then reboot the PC. Refer to 29402 - TCP/UDP Ports Used by Rockwell Automation Products for further understanding. The BOOTP-DHCP Server utility will not work if the device is connected through a router. This is because routers block all broadcast traffic by design. If the Network Adpater is set to Use the following IP address, try to change it to Obtain an IP address automatically. If the BOOTP-DHCP server is being run on VMWare or another virtual machine you must use Bridged for your VMWare Network Adapter setting. The IPv4 configuration in the Virtual Machine's Control Panel / Networking configuration must have a static IP. For any connection that shows a status of Disconnected, right-click on that connection and select Disabled. The computer has multiple LAN connections listed in Control Panel--> Network Connections. Limit the network properties to: Client for Microsoft Networks & Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Subnet mask should be same on computer as entered into BOOTP-DHCP Server utility network properties. Make sure that the LAN connection that is physically connected to the device is at the top of the network bindings list:

To change this do the following: Open the Network Connections in the Control Panel. Open Advanced-->Advanced Settings. Click on the connection used to connect to the device and use the arrow buttons to the right to move that connection to the top of the list.

To view this on your computer, click Start button-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Network Connections-> Advanced menu-> Advanced item Click OK. For Additional Troubleshooting:
