Cant cancel Equifax Credit product.

I called Equifax to cancel my account in June, and they said "yes, we will do that." Then next month they charged me, and I called them. They had locked my account because of "suspicious activity" after I called them in June, which "prevented them from closing the account or processing refunds". They needed to "verify my identity" so told me to send them my passport and driver's license via email. Then a week later they said that's no sufficient and I need to fax it to them, in addition to my T4, some utility bills, etc. When they eventually agreed to unlock and cancel my account, they ignored my request for a refund and stopped replying to me.

I had recorded my phone calls with Equifax, and forwarded all my emails with them to my bank. Tangerine threw me through so many hoops (I had to wait half a month from when I first asked for a refund before calling Tangerine again, and despite it being a fraudulent charge in my opinion, Tangerine told me they had to specifically say they were going to refund me and then not do so before Tangerine would process the dispute), and eventually after a month told me they will file with MasterCard to dispute the charge. But I still haven't received my money back, so I called Tangerine again, and they apparently have no record of me calling them in the first place (again, all my phone calls are recorded).

I've pretty much given up, the banks favour this particular company in credit card disputes. Plus if you read up on other people doing chargebacks on Equifax, you'll find that Equifax will mess with your credit report afterwards as retaliation, which may impede your ability to get loans/etc if those people use Equifax to check your report. The credit reporting industry needs to be a government agency tbh.
