Well I hope one day I gain some understanding of it. I was into early dancehall like sleng teng and such for years where you can actually understand the artists. At some point I came around to the new stuff. I used to hate the autotune and comically sexual lyrics and that sort of thing but it grew on me. But I can't watch an interview with an artist I like because I can't tell what they're saying lol. I understand how a DJ sound clash works and I've seen Rodigan clash a couple times in person. But if I try to watch the infamous Mavado vs Vybz clash I just have no fucking idea what is going on. I don't understand the rules or how "turns" work and I can't understand 90% of what anybody is saying so I can't tell when man dust a soundboy. We've come a long way from Desmond Dekker and Prince Buster I'll tell you that. But then Chance the Rapper is a long way from Otis Redding I guess, same deal.

Still though dancehall is great. I mean, it's not, it's kind of terrible actually, but still I love it.
