It's absolutely not insecurity. It makes absolutely zero sense than an entire country is insecure about where they are from. Why would someone even BE insecure about such a thing?

It's because Americans can usually trace back their lineage a generation or two to get to the family members that immigrated. The country they came from shaped many of that families traditions and cultures. It's why my family has 7 fish on Christmas eve and my husband's family doesnt.

No one says this to try to claim another country. It's just said to provide more info to another American. When traveling, Americans refer to themselves as American.

The fact that this sub finds this so hard to understand is shocking to me.
