I can't find a reason to have people in settlements

Food can be bought in diamond city or found on animals when exploring. And stimpaks are usually better as they weigh nothing.

Diamond city has all the vendors you need already.

Exploring the game gives more exp and loot than raider attacks.

Supply lines are extremely useful, if you bother with settlements in the first place. But then you have to deal with raiders. If you just use.one hub as a base, you don't need supply lines because all your resources are always available.

The loot settlers scavenge is pitiful. A junk trader in diamond city provides all the junk you need.

I just can't find a logical reason. Water is too OP. I guess if I ignore water purifiers settlements become valuable... but that's illogical. It's a paradox.
