[Canucks] Statement On Jake Virtanen

Eh I think ALL sides need to be held accountable. That way, a just and correct decision can be made.

Absolutely, we should teach men not to be a POS. But we should also acknowledge that the sooner the victim comes forward, the more evidence that the jury/judge can work with and come to a fair decision, ie. reviewing hotel footage, other records of Virtanen being at X hotel, time stamps of the victim leaving, so that the stories can align. I'm all about making the correct decision regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or societal status.

Otherwise, the more time goes on, the less evidence can be presented to the court, and the less evidence is presented, the higher the chance of courts making an incorrect decision, and when the courts make an incorrect decision, everyone suffers.

Sexual assault, as another user pointed out, is very hard to prove. It's not like murder where you have blood and fingerprints and gunshots (not that I'm comparing sexual assault to murder). That's why it's so important to take preventative measures to prevent it (like educating men) as well as coming forward as soon as possible, regardless of the stigma, so that justice can be made for the victim as soon as possible and punish the perpetrator as soon as possible. This way, all sides come out, having made the correct decision, and you get less people on both sides that feel the wrong decision has been made.
