Do you think Canzuk should encourage a transition to renewable energy.

That’s largely never going to change tbh with you. Australia has a big mining sector and its economy depends on it a lot, same as Canada.

I don’t think we should necessarily count other nation’s emissions simply because they buy the fuel from us. That way we can be clean (or cleanish) in the energy we generate while not destroying mineral based economies.

It is a long term battle making renewables work in the West, the reality is heavily industrialised nations such as Germany, China and India will continue to build coal powered stations and burn coal simply because it is cheap regardless of what CA do.

There is also the issue of generating cheap, abundant energy ourselves. Renewables are fairly green overall but cost a lot to manufacture and maintain while not contributing sizeable electrical power in the same manner as conventional energy generation such as fossil and nuclear.

So we can’t rely solely on renewables at least not at their present or near future technological development stage.

Not if we are wanting heavy industry ourselves at least such as steel mills, industrial complexes and large factories as well as any other large users of electrical power.

High electrical costs make that uncompetitive compared to nations such as China who have thrown money into fossil and nuclear technologies as well as a massive hydroelectrical capacity such as the Three Gorges Dam.

But that still does not mean we can’t have clean energy development, it just needs to be a mixed diversified field with numerous solutions including nuclear, cleanish fossil power such as natural gas or biomass particularly if it can one day be combined with carbon or pollution capture technology and renewables.
