That's the trick isn't it.

If oil hit 120-130-140-150 usd per barrel, people literally would stop being able to afford to go to work.

So they have to constantly shift and manipulate the supply and demand to keep it between 80ish - 100usd a barrel so that they can keep taking in extreme profits while preventing starvation and riots.

It's a broken system because the burden is constantly falling into other areas like welfare and infrastructure. How many cities are covered in potholes and have no decent public transport.

Eventually this whole thing collapses for sure. Will be a shame but fully possible that it drags on for a century and we all go extinct.
