Cardale Jones belittles female sports fans, claims he was hacked

What your last sentence says, to me, is that we should allow Jones the freedom to, essentially, say that women lack the mental capacity to chose a team based on anything other than pretty pretty colors. What your last sentence says, to me, is that we should allow Jones the freedom to, essentially, say that women lack the mental capacity to chose a team based on anything other than pretty pretty colors.

Well, I certainly did not interpret the Tweet to be representative of anything beyond what the tweet itself communicates. I'm certainly not interested in analyzing word-by-word what he meant by the tweet. I don't interpret the ~250 characters to be representative of Jones' supposed belief that "women lack the mental capacity to chose a team." That seems like some Crucible-level looking for things that aren't there. It seems to me more like a throwaway comment concerning his anecdotal experiences with some women. I mean, he even qualifies that it doesn't apply to all women in a subsequent tweet.

But actually, yes, yes and one-hundred times yes do I support Jones' freedom to say, "women lack the mental capacity to chose a team based on anything other than pretty pretty colors." If he typed that out, word for word, I might disagree with it, but I wouldn't feel so threatened by the existence of such an idea.

Let's say he even said, "/u/-wisconsin- lacks the mental capacity to chose a team based on anything other than pretty pretty colors." I'm the minority. I'm being singled out. Again, I disagree with him, but it doesn't really concern me at all.

I contend you don't really want discourse on social issues. You want your ideas to be the only ideas, and you'll make whatever effort you can to "fix" them that way--at least superficially.

But voicing ignorant statements like that is not having intelligent discourse, or trying to solve the problem. It's perpetuating a system of thinking that encourages the status quo on these social issues. That's why we, as a society, can't rest on our laurels and just shrug off dumb stuff like this as "oh it's just something someone said".

I disagree that a Tweet "perpetuates a system of thinking that encourages the status quo on these social issues." I don't know that you can convince me that that's true. Hypothetical: Cardale Jones (or his hacker, lol) types every letter of that tweet and hits submit. He evidently means every word of what he types, and nothing more and nothing less. This existence of this idea is present both on Twitter (but gets removed) and in his mind. He will not change his mind.

How do you "fix" him? Lock him up? Kill him? Banish him? There's no way to eliminate the idea that "women pick teams based on pretty colors" from your society without removing Cardale Jones from it. What do you do?
