Tarot cards are divided into two sections… The Major Arcana, and the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana cards are sometimes called Trump Cards. These are 22 cards that represent bigger or overall general life events, feelings, influences, and changes. What is interesting is that some refer to what is called the Fool's Journey, which takes a person from the first card of the deck, the Fool to the 22nd card of the Major Arcana, the World. Look for a post later on and read all about the Fool's Journey. The Minor Arcana are divided into four suits, similar to modern day playing cards that are divided into spades, clubs, hearts, and clubs. In tarot, the four suits are swords, wands, pentacles or coins, and cups. Each of these suits deals with a certain aspect. Swords are associated with the element of air, and the qualities of intellect, intelligence, wit, and the mind. Wands are associated with the element of fire, and the qualities of adventure, passion, ambition, drive, and the heart. Pentacles, or coins, are associated with the element of earth, and the qualities of hard work, practicality, stability, materialism, and the body. Cups are associated with the element of water, and the qualities of emotion, intuition, spirituality, and the soul or spirit.
