Career Landlords vs. Casual Renters?

At my place of employment there are many who own an extra home and rent it out. It’s absolutely exploitative of others. Why should a worker who cannot afford their own home be paying the mortgage for someone who owns 2+?

I’ve made a case to some of them that this behavior is wrong because housing is a necessity like food, water, healthcare, etc. and no one should capitalize on these items. One reply was that one person at our work “rents it out at below market value and always takes care of the broken items or issues.” Liberals believe they are doing people a service by playing “fair” within the boundaries of their economic model.
