Was "The Carol Burnett Show" funny?

I remember in the 80s and 90s Carol Burnette was already condsidered a legend and as a kid, I thought both she and Vicki Lawrence were hilarious. That was when I was like 8. A few years back, I binge-watched a bunch of the Carol Burnette Show and Mamma's family and was shocked that, not only did I not find it side-splittingly funny, but Carol seemed to be the weakest link. Which was odd to me, because she was definitely entertaining in other environments, like hosting features I clicked on, or more stand-upish bits, but in the sketch show, she often relied on goofy facial expressions and over-acting, like for every bit, sometimes upstaging what might have been a funnier joke. It made me wonder though, was it funny before because I was a child, or also because I didn't watch it very much, like definitely not over and over in one sitting, so the silliness didn't get old?
Or is what they were doing novel then and not now? Because it's not as hilarious as I remember. To be fair though, she does make really funny faces.
