Carole Cadwalladr: Andrew Neil describes Owen Jones questions about his relationship with the Spectator as ‘smears & lies’. Smears & lies is what you directed at me, @afneil. These were facts. The BBC has rules on presenter impartiality. What is baffling is why they don’t apply to Neil

Jones brought the subject of the Spectator up deliberately to get back at Andrew Neil.

You cannot possibly know that. He was discussing right wing headlines and had already cited a range of sources. You are speculating on Jones motivations when occams razor would lead towards him just backing up his point with a range of sources. Jones doesnt once attack Neil for being biased on the show.

Also I've read on here today that you're not allowed to discuss your other ventures on the BBC,

I've read unverified claims of that too. It would make sense but then you would think Neil would say we cannot discuss spectator due to conflict of interest. He doesn't. He shutdown the discussion making wild accusations that Jones was lying (everything he said was true) and smearing Neil (at the point where Neil said that Jones hadn't mentioned Neil once).

Sounds like you're anti-democracy. I'd rather have PR than FPTP even if it means greater representation from the far right

I didnt state a preference I just said differences in our political system is another factor. I agree with you FPTP sucks and PR is far superior even if it does result in a larger vote share for the far right.

Not half as angry as they get when an Islamic terrorist blows up 22 mainly children at a pop concert, or Muslim gangs gang raping thousands of white working class girls.

How about when innocent Muslims get killed by people driving vans into them? Or when innocent Muslims are attacked in the street by thugs. Or when Sikhs are attacked because racist morons can't tell the difference? Or when far right blow up gay people in soho. Or when they murder an MP? Most Muslims are no more responsible for the actions of criminals and terrorists than you or I are for the far right.

The story about the child being fostered in a Muslim home is insignificant compared to such stories.

Its a disgrace that a major newspaper thought it could get away with downright racism. [Before you start with islam is not a race - it is racist when it becomes entangled in peoples minds with a race. In this country Muslim and south asian have become largely synonymous (as I have already said racists attack anyone who is brown skinned thinking they are muslims). It is a deliberate attempt to smear an entire religon in order to sell papers and you can ditch the whateraboutery. Something worse happening doesn't make something less worse ok. It is never OK for a newspaper to pick on a minority and create lies and witch hunts.
