lol i think im doing the same case study right now. we were told to use the ASPEN clinical care guidelines 2016 pg 185-188 to find the answers.. ASPEN suggests that moderate severity AP patients begin EN via naso-oroenteric tube at a trophic rate, advancing to goal as fluid volume resuscitation is completed within 24-48 hours of admission. I thought he qualified for moderately severe acute pancreatitis based off the lab values ASPEN said to look for. He needs the nutrients to prevent it from increasing in severity. Plus, he has been NPO for one day, didn't eat much three days prior to admission, and reported his diet history to lack nutrients (ours said he eats basically just refined sugars.)
