In case you thought Memorial Day was just another excuse to get drunk or cook out

Antiwar Rant Coming; you've been warned:

But isn't that what you wanted (her). Didn't you want the thrill and excitement of a man in uniform. It made you both feel so alive, so alive, while those starving farmers in a cave with one gun between the five of them were snuck up upon by hubby and his crew, with night vision, a thousand rounds, grenades, the whole batch. We expend a million bullets per enemy killed, or so I've read, and find unsurprising. I do not know the casualty ratio, us vs. them. I would guess it 1 to 20, if not more absurd. Most of these coming from flying unmanned murder machines. But no, hubby wanted to be a celebrity, get bumped up to first class by the rich man, be proud and tough and strong and virile, and you wanted to fuck him for that, be with him for that. And this is the repurcussion. Every once in a blue blue moon, they touch one of our guys. And then I still bet you enjoy going out there, amongst those tomb stones, feeling so much like the princess of the brave knight who never refused a fight. But what of refusing a fight? I will tell you why there are more casualties as result of SUICIDE after these farce-wars we fight in modern times, these fronts for business class. It is because those reasons to enlist, the fame, the celebrity, the puffed out chest as you walk amongst your neighbors, the heartiest laugh at the barbecue, the most passionate sex, the most feeling of violently crisp living, in the face of all this killing--all those things are hollow. You might enlist for those things, but in the end, they will have wrapped their tentacles around you, those things you chose. If you fought because you truly believed the war is just, there is such a thing as evil people, and that you ought morally risk agony, killing, heads half blown off, intestines flooding the sand, car backfires terrorizing you if you make it home, your death, your eyesight, everything--then it is worth it, and only then. I perceive far too much grandeur in this image. It all makes you feel so alive, doesn't it, ripping the lives from others. Daddy was a hero.
