Casting fail or casting gold?

It's actually hard to say. By bringing Paul back, giving him a ton of power, AND cramming the season full of unpredictable twists which were given based on popularity, I think production actively discouraged interesting gameplay. It's boring, but latching onto Paul was legitimately the best strategy for most of the houseguests early on. Why risk making big power moves when anyone could have some hidden temptation power? Why try to win important comps when you can let the vet do it since they're already a big target? The three-week immunity and friendship bracelets set this season up to be a steamroll for Paul. To clarify: I think he's played a fantastic game so far, but there's NO doubt in my mind that production's twists ruined any chance we had of seeing interesting and dynamic gameplay because EVERYONE would prefer to be allied with the immune vet rather than Cody.

So many things could've been done differently! What if the temptations were public? Imagine week 1 if Cody had known about Paul's immunity rather than finding out in the middle of the ceremony. I just want them to leave room for strategy. Twists are a fine way to spice up the show and maintain ratings but whyyyy do they have to be so random?

Twists aside, I think the cast has it's fair share of issues. I've only seen 6 seasons of Big Brother but I have never seen a house as toxic and volatile as this one. So much yelling and bullying... Previous seasons sometimes featured players who weren't great gameplay wise but had extremely likeable personalities. This season I've only legitimately liked Kevin, Meghan, and Ramses - everyone else is too rude. I kinda feel like casting does this on purpose in order to create drama, but it's kinda hard to root for people at this point. Villains are great to have (Rachel, Dick, etc) but it's hard to watch the show when EVERYONE feels like a villain.

Anyway:

  1. Stupid unpredictable twists.

  2. Bad players.

  3. Unloveable people.

RIP season 19.
