Personally I don't meet up with anybody without chatting with them for at least a few days. I have this listed in my profile that I don't just meet up with folks immediately and to expect a good bit of back and forth before I'm willing to meet. If I don't feel comfortable with them for any reason then I break it off. I also meet somewhere public first and chat for a bit before anything else (usually out for a couple drinks). This means I miss out on a lot of guys who are "looking for now" and I get accused a lot of being a "pic collector" when I turn someone down, but in ~10 years I haven't met up with a single creeper or ever felt threatened or uncomfortable with anybody.
