I don't know what it is, but Stephen Messner is the only video game writer I know whose writing gets worse on a year-to-year basis. When he first started, he was usually terrific: did good investigation, his writing was crisp, he avoided excessive adverbs, and kept news and opinion separate. These days, ugh.
