CEO asks employees to lie on timecards or risk job losses — violating labour laws

Influence by Lobbyists isn't a bad thing on its own. Companies point to problems they face, so that the legislature can act, because you can't know everything that is important as a politician. The things is how do you regulate it. That political advertisement isn't regulated and not paid by the gouvernemt, but companies is bad on its own.

Politicians are paid enough that they don't need another job at a company. There is a lot that can be regulated to have the benefits of lobbyist without much of its downsides. Most importantly voting for persons that don't do the bad stuff.

The US is one of the worst examples of the western world for it. If the gouvernemt would pay for more things itself it could ignore a lot of outside influences. if taxes = evil that doesn't happen and companies pay for it hoping for a better financial return, because of it. You pay less taxes, but more overall. If it is healthcare where the US pays more then 3 times as much per person then other western countries, but gets a below average treatment out of it. Prisons, Education, etc.
