So I'm going to go ahead and eat crow here. I'm the person who wrote that article. Without excuses, I feel that is probably my poorest work. I normally try to do as much research as possible and before I started writing for The Game Haus, I usually took a month or two to write longer pieces. I'm on an article a week deadline now and it did show. I'd like to say some small stuff here as far as what was written, but I'm a firm believer in eating crow when I'm wrong and I was very wrong.

Before submitting that piece, I tossed it around with a few of the local smash players in my area for corrections. I did not want to misrepresent your community, especially with a piece that was outwardly negative. I should have done better research and going forward, I do plan on taking more time on sensitive pieces like this. I made the mistake of trying to strike while the iron is hot and quality suffered. I tried to check brackets to see exactly when best of five started and I fucked up.

As far as the twitch chat picture and r/kappa are concerned, that was the most solid place I could find that image. I'm not incredibly fond of r/kappa especially seeing as it's a cesspool of the worst parts of my community as well as a bastion for weird pornography. As someone who usually turns twitch chat off, using twitch chat was incredibly hypocritical for me and was a cop out for my lack of research.

I wanna close this as respectfully as I can, especially since I am clearly in the wrong. If at any point you read my article and felt like I was misrepresenting your community then I have failed your community. I like the smash community as a part of the FGC. I think that we could learn something about your dedication to your game, especially as you overcome the adversity that Nintendo has towards your scene.

The takeaway here is that I failed as a journalist and I made sacrifices to quality for punctuality. Going forward, I'll be making more attempts to fact check my work especially with the community at large. If allowed, I'd love to run pieces by the community here before they go out. The Game Haus does have a dedicated Smash writer, so my thoughts on the scene will be few and far between. Going forward, I will do my best to represent your community better.
