Chances of getting in: Gender Studies & Music Major at UCLA & Berkeley

Gender studies has a high acceptance rate at UCLA but not at Berkeley. You are clearly outstanding - if you attended a California community college this year I’d give you like a 95% chance at both schools, and UCSD. You could probably use the TAG program to guarantee admission to one of the other UCs. Applying from Vanderbilt you still have a good shot but they do rank admission preferences as 1) CCs 2) other UCs 3) CSUs 4) out of state/private schools.

If you’ll be paying high tuition for Zoom classes and Vanderbilt would let you take time off and attend a CC and then return, maybe you should consider that. You’d be able to hedge your bets by hopefully qualifying for TAG to one of UCSB/UCI/Davis, having the option to return to Vanderbilt and a good shot at sweeping the UCs as a transfer student. I was rejected everywhere but UCR as a freshman applicant, and went to CC last fall. As a 1-year junior transfer I got into all the UCs I applied to and will be attending Berkeley. I’m sure you could do that too. Possibly from Vanderbilt but definitely from a CCC.
