Changes to justice system cannot be reactionary

Just take a look at Bill C-51 coming down the pipe, legislating away a defendant’s rights by justifying it on the grounds of compassion and safe spaces in a court of law for accusers. That was a knee-jerk reaction to Ghomeshi’s trial to satisfy radical feminists.

This is a lie. C-51 doesn't take any rights away from the accused aside from that to confuse the judicial process with irrelevant evidence. It just makes it so certain kinds of evidence- the kinds which are usually presented to exploit rape myths- must be examined in a voire dire (i.e. an analysis by the judge to determine admissibility) before they can be included in evidence. Credible lawyers say that these changes would not have impacted the Ghomeshi trial in any significant way.
