Changing Career Path to Graphic Designer Maybe

It's brutal out there for Graphic Design. My friend did graphic design at BCIT. In their first course, the instructor told them flat out that they're probably not going to get a job as a graphic designer. The ones who succeed in graphic design as a career need to marry it to a second or third skill set such as web development, marketing, event management, etc. Just think about it. How many businesses out there need a full time graphics designer? How many logos, ads, copy do they really need? Honestly, not many, especially with so few head offices in Vancouver. So then you go look for a boutique marketing/design company to work at. How many successful ones are there in Vancouver, and do they need a junior graphics designer? There are some ridiculously talented and fast people out there. You might think you're good, but I've seen what really good people can do in a very short amount of time, and I think it's going to take a while for you to be able to match their skill level and output.
