Channel 4 is using disabled people for voiceovers which I'm absolutely in favour of, but if I'm in the kitchen during the adverts I can't understand what's coming on next

Voice actor here, I mainly provide 'background' voices such as elevator announcements and 'thank you for calling, please press 1' voices, rather than being a continuity announcer for TV. Honestly, I don't appreciate this publicity stunt. I hope it doesn't last for long.

Being a voice actor isn't just 'speaking'. I've found that if you put someone in front of the microphone they turn into William Shatner and ham everything up. There's a reason why people in this industry have trained their diction and tones for years to ensure that when they speak, what is said is both understood and sounds natural.

A lot of the public don't realize that publicity stunts like these also take away our paying work; why should we sacrifice work so that someone untrained can 'give it a go for a few weeks / months?

I've nothing against inviting someone into a studio for fun, to give them a chance to see what happens in x industry, but by doing that don't take the work away from people who make a living from winning the auditions for it :(
