Charlottesville: man charged with murder was pictured at neo-Nazi rally

why is trump afraid of angering them if they are not the core of his base?

Who knows? When has anything that guy done made sense(is this sentence grammatically correct?) I'll tell you, I find it way more likely that he is a closet white supremacist and that he doesn't condemn WSs because of that, and that most of his voters either don't see this or are in denial.

So yeah, saying there is some intrinsic relation between Republicans and white supremacists or fascist or whatever is actually making things worse for the following:

1) You are pushing people to the extremes. Even the most moderate of conservatives will want to stay that way when the other side insists he is a racist/etc.

2) You can't expect to win anything by alienating people. And these statements DO alienate people, and the real fascists know this and will take advantage of this.

On a slightly related topic, I'm not American, so I don't know if Democrats truly think they are making progress towards a shakeup next year, or even in 2020. From the outside, I just a see a deeply polarized country that over the course of 3 months has had a politician shot, and a group of people ran over, both for their political alliances. Both fueled in one way or another by their respective party's rhetoric.
