Chasing some advice on Macaws

If you have the time, the space, and the resources go for your first choice! I have both a Hahn's and a large macaw (although he's a greenwing, not a blue and gold). They are different ages but I handed and abundance weaned both of them and now they're on identical care schedules of strict sunlight hours, forage for breakfast at a set time every morning, bathing, exercise, etc.

Who is noisier is a subjective question. If we're speaking in decibels, of course it's the GW. I can hear him outside, even with the bird room windows closed. We live in a house with one neighbor just feet away (I can reach the house from my window, it's terribly designed property) and we're separated by an alleyway from the other neighbor. I've asked both if they have heard my birds and neither said they have ever heard them inside their own homes. Incidentally, I can regularly (but barely) hear a different neighbor's scarlet macaw although it may some form of Baader-Meinhof phenomenon since I only recently found out he had one. However, he is only at his full amount of loud maybe once or twice a day.

If we're talking the frequency and pitch, my Hahn's is much louder. His call is more shrill and piercing and he is much more vocal throughout the day. He likes to mumble and talk to himself but he can see out the window from his room and will call out when he sees someone pass by...or a bird fly near...or the garbage truck rumbling down the road. I generally think that parrots will respond to their environment, birds in a quiet home will be more quiet than those from a busy home. That being said, my Hahn's is without a doubt the loudmouth of our flock. But birds are generally communicative anyhow so I don't expect quiet out of them.

The Hahn's personality is very much macaw but are similar to the conure too. He is a big bird in a little body. But then again I think my greenwing is a bigger bird in a macaw body. haha! They are both social, but while my greenwing will happily step up for a confident stranger, my Hahn's is more likely to try to fake them out with a lunge and see if he can bully them first. I think either would be fine with children, especially if they are raised in a family with respectful ones (for example, can hold their arm steady for bird, won't stick fingers in cage, etc)

I can really go on about birds so I'll stop my book here. haha, I hope this helps at all! Let me know if you have any further questions about them. I'm happy to weigh in more if there's anything I left out. Good luck in your decision!
