[CHAT] How is it possible that I never knew about this? A loop start is going to be my new go to. It's so much cleaner!

Don’t do it by doubling over a single strand because you are going against the grain on 1/2 of the thread which is why when you double over a single strand one side always gets fuzzy or than the other. You can do this loop start with one strand two strands three strands all of it it works the exact same this is how I loop start every project I do for my cross stitching and my black work. There is a correct green on the thread like there is fabric. It’s like a strand of hair if you pull a piece of hair off your head and you drag your nail or knife from the root to the end it’s nice and smooth but if you go from the end to the root it’s rough and you can feel the texture of all the scales of the hair shaft itself. Spread of any sort from the cheapest to the most expensive is the exact same if you have a standard DMC scheme take the thread when unwinding it from the end that has the barcode what I like to do is put a knot at that end and then fully unwind it fold it in half and cut it at the half but the end it would have just continued the thread I bring that up put it on it and continue that back-and-forth thing so I’m just essentially cutting it off and and bringing what would’ve just continued the thread up and I get it to the links that I like to keep my thread and then what I do is I just got up to the top where the knot is and I snip off however many threads I need.

I can’t wait to like my friend to be at least a yard long I’ve noticed that doing this correctly and not going against the grain means you don’t get as many tangles your thread doesn’t unwind as often because you’re not turning at the wrong way which makes it unwind, and you are not dragging it against the grain of the warp and weft of the material which makes your thread fuzzy and which wears down the thread of the warp and weft itself as well.

As soon as I figure this out and learned it just by researching a lot I have been able to extend the length of my thread and don’t have as many broken thread issues. The trickiest part of learning Adam hearts way of doing the loop start for me was she stitches opposite the way I do because I stitch from like top left bottom right and top right bottom left and she stitches a different way than I do so I literally just sat there and did a whole bunch of loop start figuring out how it would be that I could do it so go tits up.
