Chatting to boss about my future?

Just some very basic thoughts first: Tell him you've enjoyed working there the last 2 years and you appreciate the opportunity to share ideas with him. Find out right off the bat what's important to talk about, don't waste his time going off in the weeds on anything that's better for another meeting.

As far as a potential pay bump, if that becomes a topic: Is he just wanting to add responsibility to your current position or is he looking to fill or create an actual new position or title? Be clear about that. And if you know you've already been given increased responsibilities without an increase in pay, be prepared to outline the most significant ones.

It sounds like he's basically looking to put more on you, and that's actually a good sign, but you need to know you're worth. Also helps no matter where you work if you know what competitors pay, taking into account benefits as well.

And responsibilities are one thing, but it's even better if you are able to quantify either how you have or could increase revenues or decreased costs. Bottom-line is what managers care about, and that's the only reason he's even talking to you--he's looking for ways to increase profits.

And even more important, relate everything to him and his department as much as you can vs. "the company" as a whole. Chances are he doesn't really give a shit about the company as a whole: he cares about how he looks to his bosses, how his department looks, and how he's gonna get his own raises and maybe a bonus. Anything that you contribute positively and directly to those increases your worth in his eyes.
