Cheap Turntables - Dangerous for Vinyl?

If you're investing in new vinyl, or collectable vinyl, I would invest in a high quality turntable, quality needle/cartridge, with ability to calibrate/balance it properly, will assure a great sound and longevity of both the player, needle, and vinyl.

But if you're just getting into it, and buying used and perhaps not the cleanest vinyl, it's OK to start with a cheaper model.

It might even be smart/beneficial to have two turntables. One for your clean, new or collectable vinyl, and one for your used, imperfect and often a bit dirty vinyl. I don't like putting a dirty record on a nice turntable, or vice versa. Not something that need be taken to an extreme, but something to be aware of.

The next thing you might want to learn about is how to clean your vinyl, ir keep your vinyl clean, with quality products made for vinyl cleaning. Dirt, dust and oils will damage you needle. Not balancing your turntable will put unnecessary wear on your needle and vinyl.
