Cheapest way to replace 9 ft of countertop?

The quality isn't great. The particle board is much lighter than the old school particle board. Easier to cut and easier to maneuver... but I wouldn't expect more than 10 years out of it.

I used an off the shelf countertop from lowes and ordered a bigger matching custom piece for another area. The custom piece was subcontracted out to a local countertop place and was much nicer. The pattern was the same, but the laminate was rolled under the edge, making it much cleaner. But all said, in retrospect, I would have just gone with granite.

Also keep in mind that you'll need to scribe the back edge of your countertop with a belt sander. Not too difficult, but can be a pain in the ass depending on your walls.

And if you are cutting out your sink, it can be really hard depending on the size of the sink. The back edge prevents most saws from reaching the area you need.

If you are doing a corner piece, joining at a 45 degree angle is pretty tricky.
