How do you know the comment above wasn't honest? You're not impressed with the cake, fine; the person above you was impressed, also fine. Just because you wouldn't buy this cake doesn't mean someone else wouldn't nor that she should never make cakes again or consider selling them. There's more than one way to have a business or even a side business, and more than one level of quality; what you consider amateur is someone else's five-star cake. If someone else -- maybe who can't bake at all, or who can bake but doesn't have time or energy or knowledge to decorate, or who's just less picky -- wants to buy this lady's cakes, good for her and her customers. Not everyone is looking for something that could win awards; some people just want a cute cake for, say, their girlfriend, or someone's birthday party, etc. Not everyone will have your standards, and I genuinely don't even mean that to be shitty, even though I think your comment was quite rude. I just mean that everyone has different taste. The maid of honor in my wedding (whom I no longer speak to) went around calling everything about my wedding "trashy" and "tacky" after the fact, clearly feeling that her considerably more expensive wedding was superior. But I thought mine was beautiful and suited me just fine, even if the services I bought weren't half as expensive or elaborate. I'm sure she would've called every person who worked on my wedding an amateur, but I loved every service that contributed to it. To each her own.
