Children as young as eight picked coffee beans for Starbucks

I’ve never seen a comment more egregiously miss the point, and with such an condescendingly neoliberal tone at that. Obviously we all know that a place like Guatemala simply is “different”, and that we can’t “judge” (as if anyone is even doing that) what goes on there as a matter of necessity.

The point is to change the matter of necessity. Do ignore that ethical necessity in the pursuit of being politely PC, while hand having it away as “aw shucks, those poor countries just have a different reality than ours!” is wholly evil, ignorant, and preposterous.

You are literally expressing the exact ideology of western imperialism.
