China Tells Gaming Firms to End ‘Solitary’ Focus on Profit

There's a lot of ridiculous stuff here, but there is a worrying trend of young men who do nothing but play video games all day. It doesn't seem to confined to a minority of the population either.

They play until the early hours of the morning, they get up at 4pm to have 'breakfast', they don't shower, they don't help around the house, they might go outside occasionally when they have to, and they become very irritable at any interruption to their 16 hour long gaming sessions, and they do this everyday without fail.

Somehow some of these men manage to find girlfriends who put up with their listless natures, but even worse, parents seem to go along with this as some kind of 'new normal', as if this was some kind of inevitable behaviour for young men to display.

I suspect that a lot of young men are seeking refuge from the ruthless competition of modern life, as well as the increasing lack of genuinely meaningful work on offer.

I do wonder what the health consequences of this sort of behaviour will be. We talk about the consequences of doing recreational drugs, of fast food, and of binge drinking - what will be the long-term consequences for those who essentially lead a vampire-like existence because they're addicted to fortnite?
