As China's Military Masters Artificial Intelligence, Why Are We Still Building Aircraft Carriers?

Well... it's an interesting and fair question you ask!

But in the end... if you fight a war, then you are going to ABSOLUTELY NEED good old fashioned (and even archaic) technologies such as:

guns, tanks, and infantry.

In addition, you will likewise ABSOLUTELY need newer technologies, such as fighter jets, lasers, self guided missiles, drones, cyber warfare and signal jamming, and of course: satellites.

SO... in a way, I guess we could say that your question amounts to something like this:

"The enemy seems to be building more satellites lately, so why do we keep factories open that make guns?"

"A satellite is a much more advanced and sophisticated weapon of war... so it's time we SHUT DOWN all the gun manufacturing facilities, and just make a bunch of satellites instead!"

But of course if you do that... then you'll lose the war.

The same logic applies to other areas.

For example, you could say that computer reading technology is quite advanced now, so we don't need to teach our children the ancient technology of reading.

Why bother spending HUGE energy and investment in teaching children to read anymore!

From now on: our computers will read to our children instead...

and/or our children will just learn by watching videos, rather than reading books on their own!

So ya...

In the end, older and ancient technologies and mediums NEVER fully disappear.

To give yet more examples, to this day we still pay people to conduct the highly ancient and archaic art of etching writing into stone!

They do this in the form of Grave Yard markers/tombstones, along with building-stone etchings, etc...

In fact when it comes to archaic technologies...

there are likely tens of thousands of people alive today making a decent living at the ancient art of basket-weaving!

I kid you not: back in the late 1990's I actually met a woman who immigrated to Canada from Africa, under the occupation of:

"Basket Weaver"!

(It was actually a subtitle occupation, open to immigration at that time, under the broader spectrum of "Specialized-Unique-Artists").

And let's just say that her baskets were absolutely stunning, gorgeous and beautiful! I never realized before how beautiful and well crafted a basket could be!

She has since become somewhat wealthy in her basket-weaving career, even receiving orders from museums all around the world that request specialized basket-design knits to display in their collections!

One last example: the infamous Cobol, RPG, and Fortran programming languages!

These 3 languages have been running on powerful mainframe computers since the early 1970's!

The are considered ancient and archaic today...

But there are still thousands of Cobol, Fortran, RPG programmers alive today, making HUGE amounts of money (because not many other people really knows those programming languages, or wants to learn them).

Sometimes Cobol programming job salaries begin at $250,000 per year!

So... wherever there is vast open waters... we will ALWAYS critically need Air Craft Carriers.
