Ok, but how exactly does a person in a deep depression just choose not to be depressed anymore? Is this another "fake it till you make it" situation?
Depression takes the joy out of everything you once enjoyed, replacing it with a hollow feeling and existential despair. Finding new things to be happy with is much harder, and if you do find something the results are temporary. Every day becomes a fight with yourself just to get out of bed, shower, brush your teeth, go to work, etc. It's fucking exausting to constantly force yourself to do things others do easily, so there's very little energy left to find things to make yourself just magically be happy again
