Chord Progression Questions (March 26, 2018)

In G major, the most straightforward paths are Am7-D-G or A7-D-G (ii7-V-I or V7/V-V-I). It's suspended so impossible to tell one or the other without listening, but suspended chords usually imply one or the other.

Secondary dominants are like normal dominant chords in that they can lead into another chord. If in Bb major, Bb-Cm7-F-Bb is I-ii-V-I. Bb-C7-F-Bb, on the other hand, is a bit different. If you just looked at C7-F, that's a V-I resolution in F. However, in the whole context, F is the dominant chord, and the C7 just leads even more strongly towards F. It's the dominant of the global dominant, F, so it's a secondary dominant (aka applied chord).

The voice-leading was assuming you'd had the shapes I'd posted; the shapes I suggested required little movement. It's not really relevant now lol
