Christianity and Rock Music

It shouldn’t give you guilt. Music is a form of communication that predates language, and it’s part of mankind’s innate creative proclivities. You can go to the most war-torn, impoverished countries in the world and find a music scene, because it runs that deep.

Rock music is a result of centuries of musical evolution. Would you feel bad for listening to blues artists like Blind Lemon Jefferson or Ma Rainey? What about traditional country artists like The Carter Family or Deford Bailey? What about folk artists like Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger? What about traditional rock n roll artists like Little Richard?

If you don’t feel bad about any of those, well lemme tell ya, those artists set the stage for the Beatles, the Stones, the Kinks, Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground and the Stooges, and they set the stage for all these rock bands whose music you have a hard time reconciling your faith with. And all those artists I mentioned in the last paragraph sprouted from the traditions of black and Appalachian gospel music.

So I guess my question would be, where in this chronology do you draw the line?
