Christians and Cannabis

The word "sorcerers" is: far-mak-yoos', (a drug, spell giving potion) according to the Strong's Concordance.

That's one way to translate it, but you can also translate it as "medicine-maker," "poisoner," or, you know, "sorcerer," like every English Bible I know of has translated it as.

From a practical standpoint, if you're getting it illegally, you're funding criminal behavior, like extortion, murder, human trafficking, etc.

That's really not true for cannabis. Unless you're buying brick weed from Mexico (which is notoriously bad and not the most common thing in most parts of the country), the weed you're getting is either grown in someones closet or smuggled out of a state where it's legal. This isn't heroin or crack, it usually doesn't cross any international borders and avoids most of the negative behaviors associated with other drugs. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that there's no gang activity associated with it, but I think it's a far smaller percentage of what's going on here then you're making it sound like.

Also, even if God made something "good," that does not mean it's fit for human consumption.

Sure, but in lack of any evidence for significant health risks associated with cannabis use, it's hard to claim this particular plant is unfit for human consumption.

Think about it rationally. If you're whacked out of your mind a good portion of you're free time, how helpful are you as a Christian to others? Isn't that the apitimy of selfishness?

It seems unfair to assume that smokers are constantly stoned instead of just enjoying it on occasion. Obviously, it's bad to be stoned constantly, but no one is questioning that. There's nothing wrong with taking a few hours to relax every weekend.

The same can be said of alcohol, but with alcohol it's very easy for most people to have just 1 glass and be fully functional.

It's more then possible to smoke a little and remain fully functional.
