City Hall or Big Wedding? Anyone have regrets in choosing one over the other?

it would divert money that we could be spending to pay down debt or on vacations, little luxuries, etc.

You have the luxury of being able to afford the wedding you seem to really really want. If you don't have the wedding and instead spend the $30 on vacations and little luxuries, will you look back and think, "this is totally worth not having a big wedding"? People keep saying that weddings are totally frivolous expenses and you're much better off spending that on experiences like vacations - except your wedding IS an experience. In my view, a trip to Europe can happen any old year, but this is your big chance to have a wedding, and you sound like you're in a great position to have the one you want.

We're in a similar financial position as you - own our house, make good money, have solid retirement funds and emergency funds. We are frugal by nature as well, which actually really helped with the wedding planning. I shopped around for the best value on everything. My bridesmaids are wearing dresses that retailed for $268, I got them on discount then later got a price adjustment when they went on a deeper discount - ended up paying $105 for each. And our families have been so excited about the wedding that being able to provide them with this past year's worth of happiness and excitement alone has been worth it.
