libertarian. Sorry, I wasn't clear.

Ah, no worries. 'Physically' threw me off but I figured I caught your drift. (Most libertarians are dualists, I'd say.)

Where we might part ways is in what that subjectivity does for humans and how important it ultimately will be.

Hm. I kind of find the idea that subjective experience is epiphenomenal to be a little fantastic--at least that's my intuition on the matter. I mean, that's a straightforward application of our current scientific paradigm, to be sure. But we can't really explain subjectivity well within that paradigm.

However, there's not much reason to suppose our intuitions about the fundamental nature of reality bear any relation to it, either. Which I accept. So I guess I would be willing to bite the bullet on a good epiphenomenal explanation.

Where do you stand?

But I tend a wee tad bit more toward determinism (scientifically, not politically) than do you, perhaps?

In your conclusions? Perhaps. In your tendencies? Impossible.

My idea of rebellion throughout junior high and high school was to become a Calvinist neoconservative. (My father is a moderate Lutheran who loves Schweitzer and Barth and his politics are very German. My mother is a Mennonite and a pacifist. I was reading Bloom and ) So... let's just say the intuitive draw I feel towards determinism was such that I have at times embraced the most radical forms on offer.

As things stand my thinking is all over the place. Evolution of the wave function is deterministic. But what is time exactly and how do we interpret the realization of the universe we find ourselves in... ? Fuck if I know, def. beyond my competencies.

Your take?

Right now, another trip is more important, so I'm living elsewhere.

Cool :) anything particular you have in mind?
