[CJ] How did your childhood fuck you up?

No undergarments! But no shorts, skirts had to be longer than your fingertips, no thin straps, no jewelry, that sort of stuff.

I might have told some of these anecdotes before, but:

  1. I convinced my parents to let me pierce my ears when I was a teenager and the first day I went to church somebody pulled me aside and called me a heathen

  2. They told us that your guardian angel left you at the movie theater door and if something happened to you inside, nobody would save you. So as a consequence, I was scared to go to the movies as a child (in fact, I don't think I saw a movie in the theater until I was 13).

  3. The church is openly homophobic so I was terrified of my interest in women and tried to suppress it growing up. I went to Adventist grade school-high school-college (I left when I was 19), and my college had an enormous scandal for allowing a gay-straight student alliance to exist on campus. It was disbanded and they ended up firing several professors who had openly supported it.
