CJC VP "deeply regrets" comment that most neighborhood sec school students come from troubled families

I do think that there is a segment of society, the upper class and the elite, where such views are pretty common. Just based on my personal experience as a fly-on-the-wall listening to them talk.

To them, to this segment, being respectable means having a good family background, of having good social standing, and being sent to the right schools and right JCs and preferably be sent to a UK university (US and Australian universities are a back-up option).

I knew one guy, from such a demographic segment, whose parents selected a specific UK university for him to study law there (he already had a degree by then) because many PAP MPs came from that university (it was not Cambridge or Oxford, by the way) and they made plans for him to join the party. Both parents were upper-class professionals and studied carefully the educational and social pathway of the top-tier elite to make sure their son was plugged into the right networks, all the way to graduate studies.

At least something like this is being published. 15 years ago, a statement like this won't even raise eyebrows.
