[Classic] Two users go at it in /r/ideasfortheadmins over the banning of hate subs

Ok, so now laughing at certain pain is wrong. Why?

I'm talking about lasting, existential pain that comes from unhealthiness and self-destruction,

Wow, so all fat people are in existential pain, are unhealthy, and are self-destructive? How ignorant and fatphobic of you. Fat people

And finally, I don't give a shit whether you hate fat people or not.

Then why did you say this?

Just to clear this up: you're not morally bankrupt for laughing at the jokes. That's a symptom of your bankruptcy. Your real failing is being unable to understand that an actual person, a real and feeling person, is at the losing end of all of these jokes you find so hilarious.

So do you or don't you care whether or not I hate/understand people? Is it about the jokes or is that just a symptom of my evil dark soul? Keep moving those goalposts, champ.

And the difference between laughing at generalized jokes about the holocaust and racism and whatever and laughing at the jokes on FPH is the difference between making a joke about the holocaust and posting a picture of someone who died in the holocaust and saying, "Ha, this person died."

You can laugh at specific holocaust/racism jokes. and it's not really like saying "Ha, this person died." Ever heard of /r/whitepeoplegifs? /r/ImGoingToHellForThis? Some people like edgy, dark, or sometimes mean humor that would be ignorant if taken seriously. At the end of the day, they're still just jokes, and I'd argue they're not even as bad as jokes that make fun of races or the Holocaust or whatever, because fat people generally are fat because of choices they've made, whereas black people can't help being black people, etc. You're putting a line between slipping on a banana peel and making life choices that lead you to be fat that isn't really there. You're laughing at someone's pain and misfortune. Either that is OK, or it isn't.
