Client is Threatening Legal Action Against Me

Yes, but you own the IP if you commissioned it. I'm po itive about this one, it's been upheld several times :)

I understand your viewpoint and you are certainly welcome to your opinion. However, I've been working my industry (UX design, development, and photography) for 25 years and I've seen this precise issue come up many, many times. Copyright law in the US is very clear: you own what you create unless you give these rights away in a contract or they are overridden by another prevailing law, such as employment law as it pertains to work for hire.

However, please do recognize that this is your opinion and not legal fact. Please also Google "work for hire". It will open your eyes to this issue, which is a big one with a long, complicated history. Please stop giving advice about this matter until you do. You are giving advice that will hurt people financially because you're telling one group (the clients) that they have IP rights they actually don't, and another group (the freelancers) that they lack IP rights they actually possess. This is a bad thing and you really should do more research before you continue.
