Climbing Deload

I think a lot of people take a deload period, but I don’t think many people here take a deload period specifically for weight lifting.

It definitely makes sense to rest if your body is worked from a big season of climbing, but I think you might not be looking at your numbers with the right mindset. No offense, but if you only climb 10a and can only deadlift 225/squat 135, you’re solidly in the beginner category of climbing (and lifting). If you stop climbing for a season completely, you’ll lose good momentum to really push your technique and strength.

If you’re so worked that you can’t imagine climbing for a while, take 1-2 weeks off with no climbing. I bet you’ll be dying to get back to plastic after a short break. To me it makes more sense to join a climbing gym, and maybe only do 1-2 sessions a week with some lifting sessions too than just stop climbing for a while and only lift.
