Clinical instructor evaluations always say I’m initially quiet, lack confidence, and seem anxious on the floor. How do I get past this barrier? Anyone else deal with this?

An anxious, unconfident nursing student?? Who ever heard of such a thing! Jk That’s very normal and not a big deal at all! I’m kinda tired of instructors being so hard on shy students. It just makes the anxiety worse. You’d think people working in healthcare would be more understanding of people with anxiety. I had instructors and nurses who I shadowed actually tell me I shouldn’t be a nurse because I was too quiet. Then I got to my preceptorship and my preceptor was so supportive and didn’t point my shyness out and over the semester I gained confidence in myself and talked to my patients easily and my anxiety decreased. Now I’m a RN, my supervisor last week congratulated me for doing a great job during a rapid response (something I was terrified of in school!) Don’t change anything about yourself, if you care about your patients and consistently practice safe care you will be a great nurse. Healthcare needs more quiet humble people imo. You don’t need to change, just keep showing up, working hard and be PROUD of yourself for doing so!
